September 23, 2025
The Southeastern Community College Men's Soccer team cruised to an 8-0 win in the conference opener against Northwest Community College Saturday at Bracewell Stadium.
The teams had an even battle in the first half and SCC took a 1-0 lead at halftime on a goal by Gregory Zuniga (Guayaquil, Ecuador) at the 42 minute mark.
"Every first (conference) game the emotional factor is more important than ever," said coach Henrique Vieira. "I'm proud of how we stuck together during the first half, after the first goal it was just a matter of time to get plenty of others."
The floodgates opened in the second half when Yota Ishikawa (Tokyo, Japan) scored in the 46th minute. Then Zuniga scored again and five more goals found the back of the net.
Angel Frias (Barinas, Venezuela) recorded two of those goals and had one assist.
Goalkeeper Hiroaki Oda (Saitama, Japan) recorded the shutout.
With the win the 19th ranked Blackhawks improved their record to 6-3.
"Southeastern will be a team nobody wants to play against," said Vieira. "We are going towards the right direction. I'm proud of the first step."
SCC plays another conference matchup at home Wednesday against Marshalltown.
