Blackhawks Blast Past DMACC Behind Four Home Runs from Awbrey and Petsche
The Southeastern Community College Blackhawks powered their way to a 10-7 victory over DMACC on Friday, fueled by a combined four home runs and 10 RBIs from Gavin Awbrey and Jackson Petsche.
After a slow start, the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks used a huge offensive performance from Gavin Awbrey and Jackson Petsche to defeat the Des Moines Area Community College Bears 10-7 on Friday.
After a scoreless start to the game, DMACC broke through with three runs in the top of the third inning to take an early 3-0 lead. The Blackhawks answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning when Awbrey crushed a three-run home run to left field, tying the game at 3-3.
SCC continued to swing the bats in the fifth inning as Petsche launched a three-run homer to give the Blackhawks the lead.
The Bears battled back late, tying the game at 7-7 in the top of the eighth inning, but the Blackhawks responded with another explosive inning at the plate. With two outs, James Nydegger drew a walk to put the go-ahead run on base before Awbrey delivered once again, blasting his second home run of the day deep to left field to put SCC back in front.
Moments later, Petsche added insurance with his second home run of the game, a towering shot to center field that extended the lead to 10-7.
The Blackhawks closed out the game in the ninth inning to secure the victory. Awbrey and Petsche combined for four home runs and drove in all 10 SCC runs in the win.
The Blackhawks will be back on the field tomorrow, Saturday, May 9, at 3:30 p.m. against Iowa Central Community College Tritons at Merchants Park.
