Blackhawks Finish Season Strong
Members of the SCC Track and Field team concluded the season May 14-17 at the NJCAA Outdoor National Championships in Hobbs, New Mexico.
Six athletes flew down to the tournament and had a great experience.
"We were at a new place and discovered different things," said Nick Powell.
The members that competed were Peyton Stowers, Peyton Lambert, Carter Easton and Nick Powell in the Men's 4x800 Meter Relay. Powell, Stowers and Lambert also competed in the Men's 800 Meters. On the final day Paetyn Wiegand and Parker Quinlan each ran in their 5K races.
"For the first time on the guys side we have had people qualify individually in a couple of differen events which was a big accomplishment," said Quinlan.
"I was excited to experience the atmosphere of such a competitive meet and have the chance to race against a strong field," said Wiegand.
"As a whole, the season has been one of the most successful seasons (for SCC), and it was exciting to see where the program will end up in a couple years," added Quinlan.
Many runners also claimed Region 11 All-Region honors on the season.
On the Men's team during the indoor season honors went to: 5K HM Parker Quinlan,
4x800 Relay HM - Peyton Stowers, Carter Easton, Petyon Lambert, Nick Powell. Distance Medley Relay HM - Jackson Shacklett, Grant Rogers, Easton, Quinlan.
On the Women's team during the indoor season honors went to: 3K HM Paetyn Wiegand. 4x400 Relay HM - Ja'Niya Crawford, Khalia Joseph, Bella Tibbits, Isabel Stout. Distance Medley Relay HM - Rylee Olsen, Stout, Aubrey Kuntz, Chole Ferneau.
On the Women's team during the outdoor season honors went to: 3,000 Meter Steeplechase - Kennedy Ritter. 4x800 Relay - Wiegand, Stout, Olsen, Kuntz. 4x400 Relay - Tibbits, Stout, Kuntz, Claire Anderson.
There were also numerous school records set during the indoor and outdoor track season.
