ICCAC ANNOUNCES MEN'S AND WOMEN'S REGION 11 SOCCER AWARDS

WEST BURLINGTON - The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference has announced the award winners for the 2023 Region 11 Men’s & Women’s Soccer All-Region Teams.

Southeastern is represented on the women’s side by four Blackhawks, while seven Blackhawks were represented on the men’s side.

Blackhawks women’s soccer’s Karlee Ballast made First Team All-Region for her performance during the 2023 Fall season. Jace Herman was selected for Second Team All-Region, and teammates Maria Jose Martinez and Marlin Beltran were selected to the honorable mention team. Despite winning three games, there was much to be proud of for the Blackhawks this season, such as setting a new school record for win margin after defeating Marshalltown, 11-0 on September 20th. All-Region Second Teamer Jace Herman led the Blackhawks in goals with 8 this season, followed by Karlee Ballast with 6. Marlin Beltran racked up 121 saves for the Blackhawks, a vital stat for SCC. Maria Jose Martinez and Marlin Beltran are the lone Blackhawks that are returning next season from the All-Region team. Their efforts on the defensive side are something that is promising to build around for next season. “

For the men, seven Blackhawks have been named to Region 11 teams for the 2023 season. Jordi Masegosa and Cristobal Gutierrez represent the Blackhawks on the Region 11 First Team. Three Blackhawks were named to the second team, Diego Lozano, Diego Regueira, and Sebastian Gonzalez. Finally, Jose Luis Alvarez, and Juan Hernandez were named to the Honorable Mention team. Cristobal Gutierrez led the Blackhawks with 8 goals, followed by Diego Lozano and Diego Regueira each with 7. First-Teamers Jordi Masegosa and Cristobal Gutierrez led the Blackhawks in assists with 6 each, followed by Diego Lozano and Jose Luis Alvares with 5. The Blackhawks return 3 of their All-Region player next season, when they look to climb atop Region 11 once again. “It is great to see how the hard work from the boys and girls paid off for them receiving these individual awards,” Head Coach Jorge Sierra states, “They have given everything to help the team this season.”
