Southeastern Hires Head Women's Basketball Coach
Keokuk, IA-Southeastern Community College Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Shavonda Price as the next Head Coach of Blackhawk Women's Basketball. Most recently Shavonda served as an assistant coach for Iowa Western during the 2021-22 seasons. "I am extremely excited to announce Shavonda Price as our next head coach for women's basketball," Athletic Director Peyton Deterding stated. "Being a part of the ICCAC at an outstanding program like Iowa Western lends itself well to building a foundation of success for our current and future student-athletes. The winning culture Coach Price has achieved in her rise through the coaching ranks will undoubtedly help move our program forward and I anticipate achieving success not only competitively, but in the classroom and socially as well. Having been involved in successful programs, I fully believe that Shavonda is a rising star and understands what it takes to flourish at our level." Shavonda played an integral role in bringing success to Iowa Western. During two tenures with the Reivers, Price helped oversee a squad that was ranked as high as 8th nationally and finished with a 22-8 overall record while being 17-3 in league play during the 2021-2022 season. As well, during the 2016-17 season, they were crowned Region XI and District K Champions while qualifying for the National Tournament. Prior to her most recent stop at Iowa Western, Price was an assistant coach and head reserve coach at Central Methodist University. During the 2019-2020 season, they were regular season and tournament champions in the HCAC Conference, with a ranking as high as 8th nationally. As well, Price provided instruction to three All-Americans and achieved a 51-14 record during her time. "I am incredibly honored to be selected as the head coach of the women's basketball program. I would like to thank our president Dr. Michael Ash, Peyton Deterding, and the rest of the SCC committee for the opportunity to serve Southeastern Community College, the West Burlington and Keokuk communities, and our women's basketball program." Shavonda is a native of New York City, NY. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Johnson C. Smith University with a degree in Business Management while attaining a Master's Degree in Athletic Administration from Central Methodist.
