West Burlington, Iowa- Southeastern Community College will be adding two NJCAA sponsored sports to the athletic department. President, Dr. Michael Ash says "One of SCC's enrollment strategies is to increase the number of athletic programs being offered at the college. We have hired a new Athletic Director and part of this positions responsibility is to work with existing coaches to increase the team rosters of existing programs and to add new sports to our list of options. We have completed the research on two new sports and we plan to offer them in the fall of 2018 – men and women's soccer along with men and women's cross country. It is possible that these new sports could add another 75-90 students to our enrollment and possibility to our residence hall program."
Beginning Fall 2018, SCC will offer NJCAA Division I Men and Women's Soccer and Men and Women's Cross Country with recruitment of student-athletes beginning immediately. Both programs will compete in the Region XI, Iowa Community Athletic Conference against Iowa Western, Indian Hills, Marshalltown and Southwestern Community College. SCC Athletic Director, Tyler Gaston is "happy that SCC is moving towards growing the athletic department. Any time you expand programming, you are providing students with new opportunities and ways to be engaged in the SCC culture of opportunity and success." Coaching staff for both programs will be hired and announced in early December of this year.
