Walk-off homerun by Baez closes out regular season for the Blackhawks.

West Burlington, IA – Jacob Curry pitched six scoreless innings as Southeastern found itself in a tight battle with Carl Sandburg.

The offense was able to push across two runs in the 5th inning from a two run homerun by third baseman, Marco Melgoza.

The bullpen ran into trouble in the 8th inning as Carl Sandburg was able to lead off the inning with a walk and single. Jared Skubic entered the game with runners on 1st and 3nd. Skubic retired the first batter he faced, but the next batter worked the count full and hooked a changeup down the right field line which tied the game at 2-2.

The Blackhawks entered the bottom of the 9th inning with sophomore, Oliver Baez due up to bat first in the inning. Just as the sun was setting at Dick Wagner Complex, Baez swung at the first pitch he saw and sent it over the left centerfield fence for the game winning homerun.

The walk-off homerun earned reliever, Christian Delgado, his first win of the season as he had pitched a scoreless 9th inning.

Southeastern will now hit the road and enter into postseason play which begins Thursday night. They will play the winners of Ellsworth and Iowa Lakes in the first round of the ICCAC tournament.
